Classes for Ages 3.5 to 6 years

The Ottley Music School offers the MUSIC FOR LITTLE MOZARTS Program, specifically geared to preschool and first-grade students (with their parents in Class).  This 55-minute weekly curriculum provides a balance between the discipline necessary for playing the piano and the enjoyment the child receives from the process of music-making.  Besides learning to play the piano, the program includes singing, body motions with music, ear training, and other musical activities.  The classes center on the adventures of Beethoven Bear™ and Mozart Mouse™, and later J.S. Bunny™, Professor Haydn Hippo™, Pachelbel Penguin™, Nannerl Mouse™, and other such musical characters as they learn about music.  There are additional music history stories of other composers that are from Africa, the Caribbean, South America, and other places, and activities such as visits to the Hyattsville Library down the street and musical videos.

• Music Lesson Book 1, 2, 3 and 4 (depending on where the child has progressed if already studying in a class).

• A choice of either The Pop Book (…go to Hollywood) or The Sacred Book (…go to church)
• A Student and Parent Handbook & Assignment Journal for each school year
• Ottley Music School bag to carry all materials
• Recitals monthly to teach children performance practices and decorum.

Each 55-minute weekly class has a teacher for the course.  Each child is on a keyboard with his/her parent (or other adults) next to them in the classes.  Students register for the entire school year.

Research has shown that the study of music enhances learning of all subjects, so it is an asset to human development whether or not a student becomes a great musician.  The best thing is for them to become involved in this activity. Each child is accompanied by a parent in the class.

Materials listed above include 7 books, stuffed animals for the treble and bass clefs, Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear, CDs, Flash Cards Parent/Student Handbook and Assignment Journal, and a music bag. Classes throughout the school year and summer, with only the class tuition added till books are finished.  There are 4 levels of the Music for Little Mozarts program and each level takes about 15 weeks. Weekly classes and monthly recitals take place at the Ottley Music School which is conveniently located just outside of Washington D.C. in University Town Center, Building Three.

Music for Little Mozarts Class Curriculum

Classroom Music for Little Mozarts Curriculum with CD includes all of the songs, stories, plush characters and lessons for children ages almost 4, 5, and 6 in the early childhood classroom.

Plush characters Mozart Mouse, Beethoven Bear, and Clara Schumann-Cat are included to help the music lesson come alive for the students.

These weekly 55-minute piano-playing-based classes include a well-sequenced and quickly-paced lesson with correlating CDs that include all of the songs (played and sung, stories and activities in four levels. Each student has a parent with them at their piano during the class. They assist their child and write down the assignment for the following week’s class.

There are fun activities for children to do during and after class and at home.

This program is the perfect resource for getting young children involved in a comprehensive musical experience that involves fine motor skills development, singing, body movement, listening skills, and musical concepts.

Assessment materials and correlations to the National Standards for Music Education are also included.
