ROGER WHITWORTH B Mus., Ret. The President’s Own
Mr. Roger Whitworth brings to Ottley Music School decades of experience as a French Horn player and teacher, as well as a teacher of beginning Trumpet students. He is a graduate of performance and music education from Indiana University.
Mr. Whitworth served from 1977-1988 as assistant principal and horn soloist of the U. S. Marine Band, the President’s own. He also served as Principal Horn and Soloist in The 257th Army Band from 1989-2007.
Mr. Whitworth has been a guest soloist with several orchestras and bands in the DMV. He has performed at the White House for Presidents Carter and Reagan. He has performed with such famous artists as Stevie Wonder, Cher, Eartha Kitt, Barry White, Aretha Franklin, and others.
Mr. Whitworth has served in several orchestras, and is currently performing with 5 orchestras as well is conducting the European Orchestra of Washington D. C. since 2004.
He has served as a brass teacher with Ottley Music School in the early 2000s and since 2019. He is currently teaching French Horn and beginning Trumpet to students of all ages from age 9 and up, middle school, high school, adults, and senior citizens.
