I remember being around 8 years old, sitting in front of the piano at G. E. Peters Elementary School, taking piano lessons from Mrs. Nevilla Ottley. She was passionate about music and carried a regal, queenly presence. She didn’t accept less than her students’ best! I would practice at home and was always excited when I saw pianos at friends’ houses. I am truly grateful that I was introduced to music lessons and piano at such a young age, and wish I would have continued playing into adulthood!
